Our season is constructed into two halves – the first is the period leading up to Christmas. During this time we focus on training athletes in technique and teaching parents how to measure or judge events. This first half is important as it prevents bad technique and allows all athletes to develop in readiness for Ribbon Days and the competitive half of our season. For this reason, no points will be issued to ANY age groups until after Christmas. Senior athletes (5 -14 yrs) compete weekly for points for 1st through to 4th placings in each event. Points for participation are also allocated. At the end of the competitive phase, points are totalled for each athlete and awarded to each age group. Minis (2 – 4yrs) will compete for ribbons at their very own competition towards the end of the season. Age GroupsMinis (2 - 4yr olds) Children are involved in a programme incorporating games to develop running, jumping and throwing skills. Senior (5 - 6yr olds) Children are involved in modified, fundamental skills, eg simulated shot put skills using a lighter shot. 7 – 9yr olds Training and competing in track and field (long jump, discus and shot put). 10 – 14 yr olds Training and competing in the full range of track and field events. This season track events will be timed. |
